With the Swiss Prealps and the Alps located on its eastern border, the canton Fribourg proposes many small resorts that are suitable for alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. They are located in Charmey, Moleson, Paccots, Schwarzsee and the Jaun. The small resorts of Fribourg are perfect for families and beginners. For more experienced mountaineer, there is also a lot of possibility of doing some ski touring, often in locations that are less subject to avalanches than the higher summits of the Alps.
The Schwarzsee (Lac Noir in French) is a small resort located on the northern part of the Canton Fribourg in the German-Speaking area. It offers space for all winter sports: snowshoes, snowboarding, alpine and cross country ski. The Schwarzsee resort can be reached from Fribourg with a bus that takes approximatively one hour from the Fribourg train station.
Charmey is the most important ski resort in the Fribourg Prealps and Gruyere area. Associated with the Jaun valley, you can enjoy all the Winter activities and then recover from your busy day in the Gruyere Thermal Bath with a sauna or a massage. Other smaller ski resorts in Gruyere include la Berra and the Moleson village and mountain. In these two locations, you can enjoy both alpine skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
In the Southern part of Canton Fribourg, Les Paccots is a small familly resort near Chatel-St-Denis with slopes that offer a beautiful view on the Lake Geneva and the Swiss and French Alps. It offers some easy slopes for skiing and some nice snowshoes trails.
For those who like more demanding slopes, the alpine resorts around Interlaken (Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, etc.) or Gstaad located in canton Bern can be reached in about one our from Fribourg.
