The International Festival of Sacred Music of Fribourg (Festival International de Musiques Sacrées, Fribourg) takes place in Fribourg on alternate years at the beginning of July. It is one of the great classical music events of the summer in Switzerland. Every year, more than 5000 participants attend the concerts given in the extraordinary Baroque church of Saint-Michel College.
Each edition of the International Festival of Sacred Music of Fribourg offers a fascinating excursion into the history of Western sacred music: early music, Renaissance music, baroque, romantic and contemporary music. In 1988, the Festival opened to musical cultures of other spiritual traditions: Hinduism, Sufism, Judaism, et. The Festival also gives an important place to the creation and conducts an active policy of commissions to Swiss composers.
The concerts take place in the Eglise du Collège Saint-Michel, Rue Saint-Pierre Canisius (Place du Collège), Fribourg
