Avenches Opera Festival, July 4-17 2015
The Avenches Opera Festival takes place yearly since 1995 at the beginning of July in the beautiful historical location of the ancient Roman arenas, near the Lake of Murten. Past editions features famous opera such as Aida, Carmen, Nabucco, The Enchanted Flute, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Don Giovanni, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème etc.
Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) from Rossini will be performed in 2015. This is an comic opera in two acts by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. In the 18th century, at the house of a doctor, Bartolo, keeps his nephew, Rosina, confined in his house. He is her guardian. Rosina inherited a great deal of money from her parents. Bartolo attempts to get both the beautiful girl and extensive inheritance by getting her to marry him. Count Almaviva, an aristocrat in Spain, falls in love with Rosina. Count Almaviva asks Figaro, a barber in Siviglia, to help with the success of his love.
Music will be performed by the Fribourg Chamber Orchestra with the Lausanne Opera Chorus.
