The Avenches Opera Festival takes place yearly since 1995 at the beginning of July in the beautiful historical location of the ancient Roman arenas, near the Lake of Murten / Morat. Past editions features famous opera such as Aida, Carmen, Nabucco, The Enchanted Flute, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Don Giovanni, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Bohème etc.
This year the Avenches Opera Festival will feature Madame Butterfly. Madama Butterfly is an opera in three acts (originally two) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It tells the story of the Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton of the U.S. Navy inspects a house overlooking Nagasaki harbor that he is leasing from Goro, a marriage broker, who has also arranged his union with a young geisha named Cio-Cio-San, known as Madame Butterfly.
Music will be performed by the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra with the Lausanne Opera Chorus.
